With hometown hero and rising welterweight star Darren Till set to headline UFC Liverpool in May, it seems that two more top 170-pounders could be making an appearance on the card.
According to a report by Farah Hannoun, a fight between Gunnar Nelson and Neil Magny is in the works for UFC Liverpool. Shortly after the news, Magny revealed he had signed a bout agreement on his Instagram account, and that a fight announcement would be “coming soon.”
Magny (20-7) hasn’t fought since spoiling the comeback party of Carlos Condit at UFC 219 last December, defeating “The Natural Born Killer” in a one-sided unanimous decision. The 30-year-old has gone 2-2 in his last four fights, with his last loss coming by first round submission to former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in September 2017.
Nelson (16-3-1) has took a considerable amount of time off after being finished for the first time ever in his MMA career by Santiago Ponzinibbio in July 2017. The finish drew a lot of controversy as Nelson claimed he was poked in the eye by Ponzinibbio, affecting his vision from that point on in the fight. Despite appealing the loss, the UFC denied his request.
UFC Liverpool takes place at the Echo Arena on May 27th. Till is expected to face Stephen Thompson in the main event, though the fight is not yet official.
