WBC super bantamweight champion, Rey Vargas is already in sunny California, where this Saturday, he`ll defend his green and gold belt for the first time against American Ronny Rios.
Vargas, who has undergone and come through an intense preparation in Otumba, State of Mexico; and the Romanza Gym in Mexico City, successfully passed the rigorous medical examination by the California Athletic Commission, which, in association with WBC officials, which will sanction this title bout. Conditioned, honed, alert and fully focused he stated:
“I am ready, very motivated and in great shape for this commitment, which is the first of a great story.”
The 26-year-old champion has a record of 29 wins and 22 KO´s. He won the WBC crown by brilliantly defeating Briton Gavin McDonell. He also added “I worked all of these days with the same seriousness and enthusiasm that I have always done. I am aware everyone wants my championship and I will not let anyone take it from me, I will be champion for a long time because I want to be a great example for the coming generations. The only way to achieve this is with discipline and constancy.
“I’ve always said that I want to be a three-division world champion, but I’m not in a hurry to climb up. I’d like to face the most difficult fighters in the super bantamweight division and then becoming a featherweight champion…and more!”
