It’s Rey’s fourth bout in the United States, but the first in New York. He has wins over Filipino Juanito Rubillar, his compatriot Christian “Italiano” Esquivel and American Ronny Rios, who he defeated in his first title defence.
Negrete Has fought the majority of his career in the United States. He too will be fighting for the first time in New York.
The clash Vargas-Negrete will be the co main event of the night. The card stars Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto, in his goodbye bout, versus Saddam “World Kid” Ali.
