Carlos Balderas and his brother Jose are the first big signings for Ringstar Promotions.
Carlos Balderas, who competed for the United States as a lightweight at Rio 2016, and his brother Jose have signed with Richard Schaefer’s Ringstar Promotions. Carlos, 20, will begin his career as a super featherweight, while Jose, 21, will fight as a bantamweight.
From Schaefer at ESPN.com:
“Carlos Balderas was one of the most sought-after Olympians coming out of the 2016 Summer Games, and I am so pleased that he, and his brother Jose agreed to join Ringstar Sports. … I am going to do whatever it takes to make Carlos the face of boxing, and his brother will be right there with him. … Carlos reminds me of a combination of Oscar and Fernando Vargas, and that’s not a bad thing.”
Balderas defeated Kazakhstan’s Berik Abdrakhmanov and Japan’s Daisuke Narimatsu before losing to Cuban bronze medalist Lázaro Álvarez. He was considered a strong pro prospect because of his performance in Rio, and he’s a terrific signing for Schaefer’s new company, giving them a great prospect with star potential.
