Robert Easter Jr., a fast-rising lightweight contender, is set to face Richard Commey tomorrow night on Spike TV. And heading into the fight Easter is fully confident, declaring to ESPN that he’s not impressed by anything he sees in his opponent Commey. In fact, Easter expects a rather easy night tomorrow.
“Every opponent you step in the ring with you have to respect, but it’s nothing unique I see coming from him,” Easter said. “It’s nothing I haven’t seen or faced. So, like I said, this should be a walk in the park for me, and I say that with confidence.”
I’ve said it before, but for a skilled and rangy lightweight who stands nearly 6′ tall, Easter will remain a serious problem for anyone in the division so long as he can continue to hit the 135lb mark. In that sense, he’s sort of like the lightweight version of Dhalsim — which isn’t the best news for everyone else in the division.
Easter also took some time to break down his thoughts on Commey from video he’s watched, in which he concludes:
“Seeing the few rounds I did watch is the skills, and I wouldn’t say they were that good,” Easter said. “But he’s just very strong. They say he’s strong. But you’re only strong to somebody you can hit. The skills are not much there. But I don’t like to get hit that much. I won’t get hit that much. Once I get him in my game plan, the fight is going to go my way the whole few rounds it’s going to last.”
There are a lot of fans out there who expect this to actually be a pretty competitive fight. Do you expect Easter to soundly put the beats on Commey tomorrow night?
