Robert Easter Jr: Mikey Garcia didn’t have the body, but he had the fists

Robert Easter Jr discusses his loss to Mikey Garcia.

Coming off of Saturday’s loss to Mikey Garcia, Robert Easter Jr is no longer a lightweight champion, but he seemed in pretty good spirits after losing the biggest fight of his career to date.

“Mikey’s a tough, tough champion, true warrior. Like I said, I brought the best out of him, he brought the best out of me,” Easter said.

“Unfortunately, I got the short end of the stick. I’m up here lookin’ like Martin when he got beat up by Tommy Hearns with the big lip. But it’s all good. We go back to the drawing board. I’ll sit down with my team and my management and we see what the next best move is for me.”

Asked about Garcia’s relatively soft-looking body, Easter (21-1, 14 KO) laughed and gave his opponent credit.

“Mikey had a tremendous game plan and he stuck to it. I didn’t quite work the body enough. I was throwing jabs to the body but I wasn’t working the body enough, like I should’ve been. He didn’t have the body but he had the fists.”
