Robert Easter Jr and Richard Commey are going to purse bid.
The IBF-ordered lightweight title fight between Robert Easter Jr and Richard Commey is headed to purse bid on July 19, according to ESPN.com, after the sides have failed to reach an agreement. The fight is to fill the vacancy left by Rances Barthelemy, who is moving up to 140 pounds.
Easter (17-0, 14 KO) is a top prospect in the division, while Commey (24-0, 22 KO) is a bit more of an unknown for most fight fans. The 25-year-old Easter, a Cincinnati native, most recently fought on April 1, impressively defeating former 130-pound titleholder Argenis Mendez via fifth round TKO. Commey, 29, is from Ghana, and has fought just once in the United States, but it was a good win, an eighth round TKO over Bahodir Mamadjonov in May 2015.
On paper, it’s a potentially very intriguing fight, two guys with knockout power and undefeated records, a world title on the line. It will be expected that the fight’s purse bid will be won by someone representing the Premier Boxing Champions brand.
