Israel Adesanya may as well just quit while he’s ahead.
Earlier this week, in the lead up to his co-headlining interim title bout with Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236, ‘The Last Stylebender’ went on a tirade against soft spoken middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, telling ‘The Reaper to ‘get the f-ck out of here.’
Well, that insult didn’t exactly faze Whittaker and it probably wasn’t the reaction Adesanya was looking for. In fact, Whittaker went out of his way to apologise to Adesanya for offending him and wished the former kickboxing champ the best of luck in his upcoming middleweight title fight versus Gastelum.
“I’m sorry he took it that way,” Whittaker said in a recent interview with Grange TV. “I’m very sorry I affect him that much. I didn’t think I was saying anything wrong, I thought I said he was very good. I hope I’m not distracting him. Best of luck this week for his upcoming fight against Gastelum. I think that’s gonna be a tough fight.”
Whittaker, who is currently on the sidelines due to illness, is expected to fight the winner of Gastelum vs. Adesanya in a title unification bout.
The highly anticipated pay-per-view, which features a headlining interim lightweight title bout between Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway, takes place this Saturday evening, April 13 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
