“Mini Marciano”  Ibeth “Roca” Zamora earned the official challenger spot for  the WBC female flyweight title, by comprehensively beating  Isabel ‘Estrella’ Millán at the Benito Juárez Auditorium in Zapopan, Jalisco.

Supremely conditioned and tremendously confident “Roca” won an UD against Millán, in a battle royal, largely dominating via  aggressiveness and the superior tally of blows landed, after successfully  cutting down the distance against a much taller opponent with an appreciably longer reach.

With the astute Gabriel Cordero in her corner, guiding, calming, tempering and  advising her, Roca did not initially go tearing in with abandon.  With a noticeably improved defence, she still had to weather some jarring long left leads and hooks, although Isabel`s follow up rights, were often missing the mark and also being slipped.

One of the best exchanges of the fight came midway through the third. With her back to the ropes Isabel stood her ground retaliating with venom.  So, the two swopped a cascade of punches in a toe to toe battle of fists plus wills, which thrilled the crowed, bringing it to its feet, lustily cheering them on.  It was a truly thrilling slugfest.

Outfought, intelligent Isabel resorted to jabbing and moving, but Roca, who was bobbing and weaving, just kept coming.  The publically announced scoring was 40-36 in her favour from all three Judges after four rounds, and after eight rounds it had extended to 80-72. She was landing big right hooks and searing uppercuts.  A superbly timed  left hook to the face from Isabel in the tenth and final round, hardly checked Roca who replied with multiple right hooks to body and head.

The 99-91, 100-90 and 100-90 scorecards indicated a decisive and deserved win for Roca and Isabel  was the first to sportingly applaud it.  Roca, who can talk almost as fast as she punches, confirms  she`s now ready to go in search of her third world championship against the wonderfully skilled Yessica ‘Kika’ Chavez,  Who`s WBC flyweight plus Diamond champion.  Can`t wait!
