Cheered on by 9,000 fans who packed the Josue Neri Santos Municipal Gymnasium in Ciudad Juarez, Miguel ‘Mickey’ Román reaffirmed himself as number 1 contender at the 130 pounds division by overwhelming Colombian Aristides Perez in four torrid one sided rounds.
Unusually for him, Mickey used his left jab to drill the face of the taller longer armed Colombian in the first round, but was not having it all his own way, as he was clipped with a smarting left hook. In the second Mickey went to work, becoming the body snatcher, slamming Ari with eye watering left hooks to the liver and rights to the ribcage before moving upstairs to test the chin. Ari tried to fight back, but a big right hook to the side of his head visibly hurt him in the third. Another couple of big rights wobbled Ari and he was only just saved by the bell.
A minute of respite, only slightly delayed the glaringly TKO inevitable. A Left hook to the head and a right to the body, elicited a slight shake of the head from the under fire Colombian, and with Mickey again backing him up and firing on all cylinders, plastering with a cascade of punches, Referee Rocky Burke called a timely and merciful halt at 2 minutes with 36 seconds, much to the delight of the home crowd.
