Roman Gonzalez to face Pedro Guevara on May 5th

Badlefthook.com

Though the main event is still up in the air, it looks as though Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez will indeed return to action on May 5th as part of the GGG-??? undercard. ESPN Deportes reports that the former multi-division champ has agreed to terms with Mexico’s Pedro Guevara. The official announcement will come after Golovkin announces his own opponent.

Guevara (30-3-1, 17 KO) is a former light flyweight champ whose only losses came against Johnriel Casimero (split decision), Yu Kimura (split decision), and most recently Kenshiro (majority decision). He owns notable wins over Akira Yaegashi and Ganigan Lopez, the former of whom he knocked out in seven.

This will be his super flyweight debut, but considering that Gonzalez (46-2, 38 KO) is also fighting above his ideal weight, I don’t really have an issue with it. Guevara is a credible bounce-back opponent for the Nicaraguan, who has a lot of lingering question marks after his dismal rematch against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

As always, we’ll keep you posted as this card tries to pull itself together.
