She might come out to Bad Reputation, but Ronda Rousey’s reputation with her co-workers backstage in WWE is anything but.
Unlike her roller coaster run in MMA where many fans were turned off by her demeanor, it seems that she is doing all the right things since her move over to pro wrestling. She surprised a lot of people with her work in her first match at WrestleMania, and according to Dave Meltzer, her attitude has been just as impressive so far (via Wrestling Observer Radio, transcribed byCageside Seats):
“I know this from several different people there. Attitude wise, 100% tremendous. No negativity there. She’s happy she loves doing this. She’s a hard worker. She has absolutely no stuck up star issue in this whatsoever. There’s no ego thing there, in fact it’s the opposite everyone’s talked about how refreshing it is that she is so humble for as big a star that she is.
So she doesn’t come in with the attitude a lot of guys that came in from football and all this came in and walked around like they were real sh-t or what some people will do.”
Rousey has still been dogged by many in MMA circles who found a recent interview of hers distasteful though. She explained her long media blackout by saying that hearing her speak is a “privilege”, among other things – which led her fiercest rivals, Miesha Tate and Cris Cyborg, to respond.
Overall though, the transition from Octagon to squared circle seems to be working out really well for Rousey so far. And with the recent WWE signings of fellow MMA Four Horsewomen Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, she has more allies than ever to help her along the way.
Rousey’s next televised match will be at the Money in the Bank PPV on June 17th in Chicago, when she meets Nia Jax for the Raw Women’s title.
