Rory MacDonald responds to Gegard Mousasi’s Bellator 200 callout

Bellator

Rory MacDonald didn’t even wait for Bellator 200 to air in North America. He was on top of things.

Just minutes after Gegard Mousasi called him out following his middleweight title victory, MacDonald responded on Twitter accepting the challenge. MacDonald, the Bellator welterweight champ, wrote to Bellator president Scott Coker and matchmaker Rich Chou that him against Mousasi “is the fight to make right now.”

Mousasi beat Rafael Carvalho by TKO in the first round. He took the former champ down and dominated him on the ground. Mousasi, the UFC and Strikeforce veteran, achieved back mount and rained down blows until the referee stepped in to save Carvalho.

In the cage afterward, Mousasi expressed interest in fighting MacDonald, unless MacDonald “chickens out.”

Mousasi and MacDonald have been circling each other in the press and on social media for quite some time — way back from almost the very moment that Mousasi signed with Bellator last year. Both are former UFC top contenders in their respective weight classes and MacDonald has expressed an interest in moving up and competing in multiple divisions since signing with Bellator in 2016.

MacDonald won the Bellator welterweight title with a unanimous decision win over Douglas Limaat Bellator 192 back in January.
