Rousimar Palhares misses weight by 18 pounds, has grappling bout changed to openweight

Rousimar Palhares just keeps on getting bigger. After a surprising picture of himself among some peers raised some pulses due to the size of ‘Toquinho’s’ muscles, his upcoming submission bout against Craig Jones had to be moved to openweight because the Brazilian failed to hit the 200 pounds mark, by 18 pounds.

Set to headline Kasai Pro 3’s main event on August 18th, Palhares was originally slated to meet Jones at middleweight, but he warned the promotion he was unable to make that weight and the fight was moved to 200 pounds. Rousimar’s opponent accepted the change and came in at 204 lbs.

During the occasion, FloGrappling tweeted a picture of a swollen Rousimar Palhares at the weigh-ins.

A leglock specialist, Rousimar Palhares (19-9-1) had a controversial MMA career, as he became infamous for holding on to his submissions for too long, thus injuring many of his opponents, which ultimately led to his UFC release in 2013.

In his MMA career, Palhares defeated notable names, such as Jon Fitch, Jake Shields and David Branch. He was also the World Series of Fighting welterweight champion from 2014 to 2015.
