Unbeaten WBO #3 heavyweight Andy Ruiz (27-0, 17 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over Franklin Lawrence (21-3-2, 16 KOs) on Saturday night before a sold out crowd of over 3,000 outdoors at the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, California. Ruiz rocked Franklin in round two, but the 40-year-old Franklin got through it. Both fighters slowed down after that and the bout went the full ten. Scores were 99-91, 99-91, 100-90. Ruiz retained his NABF title and is now in line for a WBO eliminator against Hughie Fury on the October 29 Fury-Klitschko undercard in Manchester, England.
In a walk-out bout, welterweight Arturo Marquez (4-0, 3 KOs) went the distance for the first time, winning a four round majority decision over Curtis Waller (1-4-1, 0 KOs). Scores were 39-37, 39-37, 38-38. Marquez is the son of former world champion Raul Marquez.
Unbeaten welterweight Saul Lomas (9-0, 6 KOs) unleashed a brutal left hook that slammed slammed Joshua Joseph (5-3, 3 KOs) very hard to the canvas. Fight over. Lomas KO3.
Former lightweight world title challenger Ray Beltran (30-7-1, 18 KOs) battered Miguel Mendoza (22-9-2, 21 KOs) until Mendoza finally went to the canvas in round five. The bout was then waved off.
Super welterweight prospect Danny Valdivia (12-0, 9 KOs) won a spirited eight rounder over Gilberto Pereira (7-3, 4 KOs) by scores of 77-75, 77-75, 78-74.
