On Saturday October 28 the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) All Africa Super Bantamweight championship is on the line, when Team Dida presents “Rumble In The Ghetto” at Kagiso Memorial & Recreation Centre in Kagiso township, approximately thirty kilometres west of South Africa´s largest city Johannesburg.
Squaring off for the title will be reigning Gauteng Champion Thato “Captain Charisma” Bonokoane, bringing a record of 5-1-2 (3), and former South African national title-challenger Luthando Mbumbulwana, who is 9-4 (7) since turning professional in 2010.
Bonokoane will return to the venue where he won the Gauteng title in his most recent fight, on July 29, scoring a majority ten-round decision over tough competitor Bongani Bhuti. To win the WBF All Africa crown, he should expect another grinding affair on October 28.
Luthando Mbumbulwana has mixed in superior opposition compared to Bonokoane, and won his first seven bouts in convincing fashion before losing a unanimous decision to South African titlist Siviwe Hashene in April of 2014. He has not been very active since, but won his last outing by stunning second round knockout.
For Bonokoane this fight is a chance to continue his current momentum, and for Mbumbulwana it is a welcomed opportunity to get his career back on track after more than a year of inactivity. Both have expressed their intentions to not let themselves down, and it is almost surely going to be an entertaining scrap.
