Rumor Mill: Is Errol Spence Jr looking to make a career move?

Badlefthook.com

The rumor mill has been as generous as I’ve seen it of late, what with so many parts moving in the boxing sphere.

You have the Eddie Hearn DAZN money pot causing chatter and moves-making. And for sure you have that Top Rank/ESPN deal causing ripples of activity and talk.

One grapevine burst I’ve heard of late is that Errol Spence is maybe readying to make a move.

Top Rank, someone told me, is going to make a massive moolah offering to the Texan, try to lure him into the fold. Spence is part of the PBC crew, and is loyal to Al Haymon and company.

Or is he? Might that Top Rank headway into the new age media, and that flurry of dates that Bob Arum and company will have to fill in the next couple years, have them making Spence, a 22-0 pound-for-pounder, an offer he can’t refuse?

So, I put it to Arum, point blank. The Brooklyn-born deal-maker is in Vegas, counting down to the Terence Crawford ascent to 147, a tango with Aussie titlist Jeff Horn, a fight that will screen only on the new ESPN app, ESPN+.

Grapevine says Top Rank has an offer out to sign Errol Spence, true or false?

“False,” Arum messaged me, straight up.

Now, does that mean that Team Hearn hasn’t checked to see if Spence might like to be the first mega-watt star to hop onto the Brit’s new endeavor, the all-stream sitch, which will unspool more fully in the next couple months?

By the way, I asked Hearn if the rumor was true, that DAZN will ask buyers to pay $20 a month to watch fights on the web-based service, which is a player in other nations, and is looking to grab a foot-hold in the US.

“That will be announced by them in due course,” Hearn answered.

So, some questions asked, and answered. There will be many, many more, with some surprising answers, being sparked in the coming days and weeks.
