Alexander Povetkin (30-1-0, 22 KO’S) ranked 1 in the WBC heavyweight division, is currently one of the toughest most capable fighters around.
The Russian is 1.88 meters tall. He started as a kick boxer, winning the junior world title in 1997, the world title in 1999 and European professional title in 2000.
But the passion for boxing of Povetkin was always there. As an amateur he won the Russian championship in 2000 at 21 years old. Since then he added important victories, conquering several medals in different tournaments; but his major success arrived in 2004 during the Olympic games winning the gold medal in Athens.
He concluded his amateur career with 125 victories and just 7 defeats.
In 2005 Povetkin debuted as pro with an impressive KO over Muhammed Ali Durmaz in 2 rounds. Then, he continued proving his quality by defeating tough contenders including Chris Byrd, Eddie Chambers, Ruslan Chagaev, Marco Huck, Hasim Rahman, among others.
On December 17, the eyes of the world will be focused on the match between Povetkin vs Canadian Bermane Siverne (25-2-1, 21 Ko’s) at the Ekaterinburg Expo in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
In the main event the World Boxing Council interim heavyweight championship, is on the line, and the winner will then face the absolute world champion, American Deontay Wilder (37-0, 36 KO´s) in 2017.
