FOUR Filipino boxers all bowed out to their Russian rivals in separate championship fights all held in one boxing card Friday night at the DIVS in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
Interim Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super featherweight champion Carlo “The Ferocious” Magali of Bohol failed to answer the bell for the 9th round and lost by retirement to still unbeaten Pavel Malikov in their championship fight for the WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver lightweight title.
Malikov scored his 9th straight win while Magali dropped to 28-9-3 win-loss-draw card.
Former OPBF super welterweight champion Dennis “Mr. Humble” Laurente of Butuan City was also stopped in the 9th round by Magomed Kurbanov in their battle for the vacant WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council super welterweight title.
Kurbanov also remained undefeated with nine straight wins while Laurente suffered his 8th defeat again 50 wins and 5 draws.\
Cebu’s Jerry Castroverde, likewise, did not answer the bell for round 5 and lost to Shavkat Rakhimov in their title-fight for the vacant WBO Youth Interncontinental super featherweight crown.
Rakhimov won his 7th straight victory against no loss or draw while Castroverde dropped to 9-3-0.
Marvin Esquierdo of Cagayan de Oro City also lost by a 6th round knockout to Mark Urvanov for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth featherweight title.
It was only Esquierdo’s second loss against 7 wins and 1 draw while Urvanov improved to 8-1-0 slate.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Mikhaylenko captured the interim WBC Silver welterweight title via a 7th round technical knockout win against Breidis Prescott in the main event.
Mikhaylenko survived a knockdown in the first round to also stop Prescott in the 7th round.
In the main supporting bout, Evgeny Chuprakov won by a majority decision against Jeremiah Nakathila to capture the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super featherweight title.
Mikhail Alexeev pummelled to submission Mirzhan Zhaksylykov in the 8th round to cop the WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver super featherweight title.
Alekseev was downed twice in the opening round but came back strong in the 8th round to also knock down Zhaksylykov, who eventually failed to come out for the 9th round. – LOLITO DELOS REYES
