One of Golden Boy’s most marketable young stars, Ryan Garcia (16-0, 13 KOs) has just made a switch to bring in Eddy Reynoso as his new lead trainer. Golden Boy posted the news on Instagram, which featured the two together in a photograph.
The caption reads:
“The Face of Boxing welcomes the Future of Boxing to camp as Eddy Reynoso will now be the head trainer of super featherweight prospect Ryan ‘Kingry’ Garcia. The future looks bright for the young star as he takes a monumental step forward in his career exactly one decade after Canelo Alvarez made his debut in the United States.”
Reynoso, of course, is most notably known for training and developing superstar Canelo Alvarez since he was a kid. Garcia, 20, has all the makings to be a star in the sport — at least that’s what Golden Boy hopes, anyway — but he’s coming off a tougher-than-expected outing against Carlos Morales last month where he took a majority decision.
Fight commentators and fans saw some flaws in Garcia’s game during that bout, and he’s probably made this switch to round out his skills as he’ll need to take another step up in competition if he ever wants to achieve what’s expected of him.
