Rising prospect Sage Northcutt showed a lot of promise during his brief three-year stint with the UFC. Now that he has moved his career to Southeast Asia under ONE Championship, the 22-year-old fighter is setting bigger goals for himself.

“What I think is cool is, they have, not only do they have MMA, but they also have Muay Thai and they have kickboxing,” Northcutt told Luke Thomas on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting). “So, I want to be the champion in MMA, I want to be the champion in Muay Thai and kickboxing. I want to do it all.

“And I think that ONE Championship is going to be really cool because I believe that I’m going to display my different skills in each of those and I believe be the champ in each of those. I think it’s the perfect league.”

Northcutt says he had been offered fights in the UFC upon the expiry of his contract last July, only for the negotiations to fall through. At the time, he was still keeping his options open, including the possibility of re-signing.

But with the uncertainty of his other offers being matched by the UFC, followed by his trip to Singapore in early November and getting to see how things are first-hand, “Super Sage” was able to come up with a final decision.

“It’s definitely huge and I thought it was really cool how, when you walked out they had fireworks shooting out through the arena and then when the people that had the title won the ONE championship or defended their title, they had gold confetti everywhere. It was really cool.”

From their end, UFC President Dana White is open to having Northcutt back in the rostersome time in the future.

Upon his signing in 2015, Northcutt compiled a record of 6-2 in the UFC. He last saw action in July, when he knocked out Zak Ottow in the second round.
