PHILIPPINES — Markquil “Gunz” Salvana of General Santos City is facing former Japanese featherweight champion Shota Hayashi of Japan on September 3 at the Aioi Hall in Kariya, Japan.
The 20-year old Salvana tipped the scales at 126 lbs. while Hayashi submitted 127 lbs. during the official weigh-in today.
Salvana (13W-3L-0D, 7 KOs) of Sanman Boxing Gym has won his last two fights all by knockout. He first stopped JP Macadumpis by a 2nd round technical knockout last March 12 in T’boli.
He previously pummeled to submission Alvin Bais by a first round knockout last June 10 at Robinson’s Gensan. Salvana, however, lost to another Japanese Takuya Uehara by a UD in their battle for the vacant WBC Youth World featherweight title last Dec. 18 in Osaka.
Salvana, who currently ranked Philippine No. 13 super bantamweight contender, also suffered his first defeat by retirement in the 5th round from the hands of still unbeaten Jason Moloney in their championship bout for the vacant WBA Oceania super bantamweight crown in 2015.
The 29-year old Hayashi (29W-6L-1D, 17 KOs), on the other hand, lost his Japanese featherweight title by a 3rd round TKO to Kosuke Saka last April 23 at the Aioi Hall.
It was only Hayashi’s second title defense of the vacant crown he won via a unanimous decision win against Noriyuki Ueno last Sept. 24 in Nagoya.
Meanwhile, another Filipino pug Bryan “The Machine Gun” Capangpangan (12W-3L-1D, 9 KOs) will also fight in the same card against Japanese Yushi Tanaka (20W-2L-3D, 14 KOs).
