PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – Sanman Promotion’s Chief Finance Officer Dexter “Wang Yu” Tan and Chief Executive Officer Jim Claude “JC” Manangquil were awarded as the Promoters of the Year by the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) during its 55th OPBF Annual Convention last Nov. 9 at the Princesa Island Garden Resort and Spa.
“I thanked each and everyone who helped me especially my partners and Sanman boxers,” said Manangquil.
Tan and Manangquil, who are from General Santos City were the only recipients of the prestigious award from the Philippines.
Manangquil was also awarded in the past the same prestigious award by the WBC Asia Boxing Council, GAB and the Elorde Awards.
The other OPBF Promoters of the Year were Takashi Edagawa and Dangan Promotions of Japan, Richard Fogarty and Paul Nasari of Australia, Raymond Lew of Malaysia and Arvind Lalwani of Singapore.
Meanwhile, undisputed lightweight champion Masayoshi Nakatani of Japan was awarded as the Boxer of the Year by the prestigious Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) during the annual 55th OPBF Convention held Nov. 9 at the Princesa Island Garden Resort and Spa in Palawan.
Nakatani was awarded for successfully making his 8th title defense. He has been an OPBF champion since January 2014.
Four other OPBF champions, who are all Filipinos, were also each given a Plaque of Boxing Achievement. They are light flyweight Edward Heno, bantamweight Mark John Yap, super flyweight Rene Dacquel and super featherweight Carlo Magale.
“They were awarded for their hard work and dedication in successfully winning the OPBF titles,” said Mitra.
Plaques of appreciation were also given to WBC Asian Boxing Council, Gerrypens Boxing Promotion of former two division world champion Gerry Penalosa, Highland Boxing Promotion of international promoter-matchmaker Brico Santig, United Boxing Promotion of Ryuta Kato and the Pakistani Boxing Association.
Plaques of recognition were awarded to the active OPBF member countries – South Korea, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hawaii, Fiji, Guam, Taiwan, Mongolia, India, China, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Samoa.
Plaques of appreciation were given to Puerto Princesa City Mayor Lucilo Bayron, Office of the City Administrator, Maj. Lee Won Bok of Korea, WBC Ring Officials Chairman Hubert Minn, international referee-judges Gene Del Bianco and Bruce McTavish, Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) President Naris Singwancha, international promoters Liu Gang of China and Chris Carman of Australia, Australian National Boxing Federation, Japan Boxing Commission.
