Sarah Frota’s days as a strawweight are over.

“A Treta”, who took on Livinha Souza at last Saturday’s UFC Fortaleza in Brazil and lost via split decision, didn’t come close to making the strawweight limit for the bout, coming in at 123 poundson Friday. And according to her manager and coach Marcelo Brigadeiro, Frota will be competing at flyweight going forward.

Frota’s win at Contender Series last August, a quick knockout win over Maiara Amanajas, was her first time competing at 115 pounds, and she made weight for that bout. However, Brigadeiro expects the Brazilian fighter to perform better at 125 pounds.

“She made weight well (for the Contender Series fight) and if it wasn’t for her period she would have made weight now,” Brigadeiro told MMA Fighting, “But she gets too worried about the weight, keeps focused on her weight, and not in her training, for a month and a half, so I think she will feel better in her new weight class.”

Frota dropped to 9-1 as a professional after losing her Octagon debut, and was fined 40 percent for missing weight for UFC Fortaleza. “A Treta” only went the distance twice before joining the UFC.
