More than four hundred young people investigated, assessed and provided detailed, intelligent presentations about society its problems and issues as well as how they can be tackled, in Metepec, in Estado de Mexico, as part of the SCHOLAS world-wide Citizen program, launched by Pope Francis.
Discrimination, marginalization, corruption, law and order and how we are governed were thoroughly delved into for two weeks, by the young generation, who said how they found it, in a plain, engaging and unvarnished manner, which was honest and refreshing.
The World Boxing Council which has pledged itself to this multi faith and cultural inspiration was at this event. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said:” It was a humbling experience to see the kids come up with a line of problems, but also proposed solutions to better society, starting with family values, and what we can do, without blaming. I am enthused, impressed and touched. It is something we can continue everywhere.”
State Governor Eruviel Avila pledged that from this day hence, his Administration is joining this particular SCHOLAS program, doing everything it can to help. During a walkabout in the crowd he said: “if violence is the poison, then culture and education is the answer!”
SCHOLAS World President Jose Maria Del Corral who was also at this event praised the energy, wit, intelligence and hope of the youngsters, saying that bridges and not walls need to be built, because barriers create cages.
