Lee Selby’s mandatory IBF featherweight title defense against Jonathan Victor Barros is all but set, as Tom Brown of TGB Promotions, a promoter closely associated with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions, has narrowly won a purse bid for the fight.
Brown bid $601,000, barely beating out the bid by Barros’ promoter of $600,000.
Selby (24-1, 9 KO) was set to face Barros (41-4-1, 22 KO) in January in Las Vegas, but Barros was pulled at the last minute by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Instead, Selby fought on March 4, beating Andoni Gago in a non-title tune-up in London.
Argentina’s Barros, 33, last fought in October, traveling to Japan to defeat Satoshi Hosono via split decision, and he’s won seven in a row since a stretch where he went 1-3 in four fights, losing to Celestino Caballero, Juan Carlos Salgado, and Mikey Garcia.
Selby, 30, last defended his title in April 2016, defeating Eric Hunter at the O2 Arena in London
