Argentinian popular former Middleweight World Champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martínez (54-3-2, 30 KO’s) is set to battle Briton Macaulay McGowan (14-2-1, 3 KO’s) on Thursday, January 27, at the Wizink Center in Madrid, España.

The 10-rounder middleweight fight is the 4th war that the veteran former 2-division champion wages since his return to boxing action in August of last year in search of a shot at the middleweight world crown.

Born in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sergio Martínez claimed world championships in 2 weight classes, including the WBC super welterweight Strap from 2009 to 2010; and the unified WBC, WBO, Ring magazine and Lineal Middleweight titles between 2010 and 2014; and in 2010, Martinez received “Fighter of the Year” awards from The Ring Magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Will the now 46-year-old Sergio “Maravilla” Martínez get the title shot he is fighting for?

Would “Maravila” be targeting middleweight kings WBC Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KO’s), WBA Erislandy Lara (28-3-3, 16 KO’s), WBO Demetrius Andrade (31-0, 19 KO’s) or IBF “Triple G” Gennadiy Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KO’s)…or someone else?

How would the formerly very popular Sergio Martínez do in battle against any of those current champions? And against who of them would the slick southpaw have better chances of victory?

As fans might remember, Martinez’ boxing was based on speed, skilled moves and pretty decent power. Does those factors still exist in in enough quantities to see him through against talented adversaries?

The Sergio Martínez vs Macaulay McGowan rumble is a promotion of MaravillaBox in association with Richard Schaefer’s Probellum.
Buena Suerte Maravilla!
