Former middleweight champion Sergio Martinez continues to trash talk Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. as he attempts to goad him into finalizing their deal to rematch. Martinez even says he’s agreed to fight Chavez Jr. at 168lbs and asks Chavez Jr. to check his manhood…
“What do your cojones say? (Do you) Want it Julio? I’m going to hit you twice as much as 2012. I promise you,” said Martinez.
“I’m ready to fight you. I agreed to go up to 168 pounds, the date of November 17. I accepted everything and I am ready to give you another beating.”
Martinez beat Chavez Jr. in a 2012 fight but not before suffering a late scare in the fight where Martinez was dropped and nearly stopped. Martinez managed to make to the final bell, however, and was up by a good margin on points, having outboxed the bigger Chavez Jr. for most of the fight.
Martinez would officially announce his retirement from boxing in 2015, after it became clear he just could perform at a suitable level will his serious knee problems — in fact he even struggled just doing daily activities. Martinez has since said he’s healed up, however dubious a claim that may seem, but still refers to himself as ‘crippled’ when taunting Chavez Jr.
At this point there’s no firm word on whether or not this fight will happen — not that anybody’s dying to see it — but it’s a thing out there in the boxing world.
