Shakur Stevenson Defends Against Tough Brazilian Conceição on Friday

Unbeaten WBC/WBO Super Featherweight World Champion Shakur Stevenson is ready to defend belts against Brazilian challenger Robson Conceição this Friday, September 23, in Newark USA, an exciting mission for Shakur, names after late super star rapper Tupac Shakir.

The fight is prompted byTop Rank love on ESPN.

Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) will return to the Prudential Center after the best performance of his career last April, when he defeated Mexican star Oscar Valdez.

With that win, Shakir unified two of the super featherweight titles in a resounding 12-round victory, and jumped up into the top 10 pound-for-pound ranking.

A former featherweight world champion, Shakur Stevenson won the WBO 130-pound strap last October, knocking out reigning champion Jamel Herring.

In 18 pro fights since he captured a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Stevenson has lost just a handful of rounds, establishing himself as one of boxing’s sport’s premier defensive fighter.

The left-handed stylist returns to “Brick City” (Newark), with the intention of maintaining his dominance.

“I will return home to Newark and I will return as a unified champion.

“I have always proudly represented Newark and am ready to perform in front of my hometown fans at the Prudential Center this September 23rd.

“Robson Conceição gave Oscar Valdez a tough fight. A lot of people felt like he won, but we’ll see how good the Brazilian really is when he fights me,” said Shakur Stevenson.

Conceição (17-1, 8 KOs) made history as Brazil’s first Olympic boxing gold medalist, turning professional under the Top Rank banner less than three months after the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Conseição entered the fight against Valdez last September with a 16-0 record, but oddsmakers gave him little chance of dethroning the champion. Oddsmakers were right as Valdés won.

After 12 rounds the man from the land of Pelé lost a close decision, but ultimately proved himself as a worthy title contender.

Less than 5 months after the Valdez fight, he traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and defeated the previously undefeated Xavier Martinez in 10 rounds.

Conceição, who battled Valdez, Vasiliy Lomachenko, Joe Cordina and Josh Taylor as an amateur, now has a second chance of take his pro boxing to another level. Will he take advantage of the golden opportunity?

“Shakur Stevenson is an excellent athlete and he has my respect for all that he has accomplished,” says Robson Conseicao.

“Our paths are crossing, and there will be only 1 champion.

“I guarantee you the best performance of my life.

“It will be the fight of the year, and a great show for the public and my Brazilian fans, the ones who never give up!” added Conceição.

On this same card, United States silver medalist Keyshawn Davis (5-0, 4 KOs) returns against Mexican Omar Tienda Bahena (25-5, 18 KOs).

Davis, a 23-year-old nicknamed “The Businessman” is a rising star who has yet to lose a round as a pro.

The former amateur superstar was one of the boxing stars of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic.

In the Olympics, Davis lost in lightweight a competitive decision to Cuban prodigy Andy Cruz. But Silver medal is not a bad thing at all.

Let’s find out what Davis can do on Friday!

Maybe the best men win!
