The prospects will be out in force on October 13th, setting the stage for Terence Crawford’s first welterweight title defense against Jose Benavidez Jr. Leading the way is Olympic silver medalist Shakur Stevenson in his first ten-rounder against Duarn Vue, alongside Carlos Adames and Mikaela Mayer.
Stevenson (8-0, 4 KO), apparently undeterred by his arrest this summer, has already picked up four wins this calendar year, all eight-rounders. Vue (14-1-2, 4 KO) has had a fairly unremarkable career, but did recently beat former champ Nehomar Cermeno.
Adames (14-0, 11 KO) has emerged as one of the Dominican Republic’s brightest young stars, recently moving from welterweight to super welterweight. Foe Joshua Conley (14-2-1, 9 KO) was last seen being Julian Williams’ bounce-back opponent in June of 2017.
Mayer (7-0, 4 KO), another medalist on the 2016 squad, will also be making her fifth appearance of the year against Vanessa Bradford (4-0, 2 KO).
Finally, Mike Alvarado (39-4, 27 KO) will go from being Manny Pacquiao’s potential opponent to fighting Robbie Cannon (16-13-3, 7 KO), who is 2-5-1 in his last eight. For your amusement, Dan Rafael misspelled Cannon’s hometown of Festus as “Fetus, Missouri.”
