Shawn Porter and Andre Berto took advantage of the media’s eyes being on Brooklyn today, announcing an April 22 fight on Showtime at the Barclays Center.
The two former welterweight titleholders should provide good action, and both were respectful and laid back at the press conference.
Porter (26-2-1, 16 KO) hasn’t fought since last June, when he lost a scrappy, competitive fight to Keith Thurman on points. Berto (31-4, 24 KO) last fought in April 2016, beating Victor Ortiz in a rematch of their 2011 Fight of the Year.
Who do you like in this matchup? Porter is fresher and younger, but Berto says he’s smarter and better with trainer Virgil Hunter. Will that make a real difference, or will Berto always be Berto when push comes to shove, as it absolutely will in this fight?
Showtime also officially announced that they will be the U.S. home for the May fight between IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook and top prospect Errol Spence Jr, which is set to take place in the United Kingdom.
