US fighter, two-time Olympic Gold medalist and superstar in the forming, Claressa Shields won the World Boxing Council super middleweight belt in just her fourth professional bout, beating Germany’s Nikki Adler by TKO In the 5th round. at the MGM Grand Detroit in Detroit.
Shields aged just twenty two, went into overdrive to overwhelm Adler with greater speed, power and precision. Referee Michael Griffin decided to stop the largely one way traffic, at 1:34 minutes of the fifth round, as Adler was receiving a lot of punishment.
“I had trained for a difficult fight. I was ready to go up to all 10 rounds, because I knew I would not have an easy fight. It was going to be a war, and getting the TKO makes me very happy,” said the new world champion.
With this victory, Shields gears and steers her record to 4-0, with 2 knockouts, becoming WBC champion, while with this reversal, 30-year-old Adler lost her undefeated record 16-1 with 9 KOs.
