World Boxing Council super middleweight champion, Claressa Shields (5-0, 2 KOs) has just defeated hitherto unbeaten Tori Nelson, so now the double Olympic gold medallist, has her sights set on the middleweight division where she wants to take on WBC champion Christina Hammer, who was at ringside in Verona, New York.
“I have to come down a division and see how I feel,” Shields said. “I think I could make the 160 pounds division easy, I’m going to be bigger and stronger than any girl there, Hammer only has a good reach, I know I can beat her. People think Hammer is more skilled than me, so I cannot wait to show them it is not like that. ”
Hammer, who could debut in the United States soon, was interviewed on SHOWTIME also and expressed her unfettered enthusiasm for the fight. “It’s a great combination for me and for her, I can not wait to show the fans who Christina Hammer is, and that I will be the best fighter in history. It will be my moment to shine,” pledged Hammer stressing:
“I’m a solid world champion and I have more experience, I have a longer reach, I’m tall, I have good footwork and better technique than her, I cannot wait to fight Shields.”
