SHO boxing results: Malignaggi beats Bracero, Farmer tops Redkach

Paulie Malignaggi and Tevin Farmer picked up wins tonight in Brooklyn.

The fights are underway tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and we’ve already seen a pair of TV bouts finish up on Showtime Extreme, heading into the Showtime broadcast.

In the SHO Extreme main event, Paulie Malignaggi (36-7, 7 KO) beat fellow Brooklynite Gabriel “Tito” Bracero (24-3, 5 KO) by 10-round unanimous decision. Scores were 96-94, 98-92, and 98-92. BLH had it 97-93 for Malignaggi, giving Bracero the final three rounds, as Malignaggi ran out of gas a bit.

Malignaggi, 35, hopes to fight for the European welterweight title soon, and then target one more shot at a world title. There’s nothing in his recent performances to suggest he’ll be successful in a world title fight, but he could conceivably win the European belt. The current champion is Leonard Bundu, but he’s set to face Errol Spence Jr (non-title, obviously) in August. Bundu could be a tough ask for Paulie at this point, but there’s also a chance the title could go vacant and Paulie could get a shot against a lesser contender.

In the co-feature, Tevin Farmer shut out and outclassed Ivan Redkach in a 10-round lightweight bout, winning on scores of 98-90, 98-90, and 99-89. BLH had it 99-89, with each fighter losing a point for fouls.

Farmer (22-4-1, 5 KO) won his 15th straight, and Redkach (19-2-1, 14 KO) was just never really in the fight. It wasn’t long ago that Redkach, 30, was considered a rising contender, but he’s 1-2-1 in his last four fights, and appears to have hit the wall. He couldn’t do much with Farmer, whose handspeed and defense gave Redkach fits throughout the fight. It was a chippy one as it went on, with Farmer landing a lot of low blows, and Redkach using his head a bit on the inside. But it was a clear win for Tevin Farmer, who said previously he would go back down to 130 after this, but he looked quite good at 135, so wherever the best chance is, he might go there.
