It wasn’t as dramatic as the first fight, but it was still a good fight with plenty of action. Leo Santa Cruz made an obvious tactical adjustment heading into this fight which really made all the difference tonight. In the end Santa Cruz would win a majority decision on scores of 114-114, 115-113, and 115-113. I had the fight slightly wider with Santa Cruz ahead 117-111.

Leo Santa Cruz fought a very different style of fight that we’re used to seeing from him, but still threw plenty of punches. Instead of his usual stalking, whirlwind style, Santa Cruz laid back and used his height and reach to make the shorter Carl Frampton come to him and walk into punches. Santa Cruz unleashed jab after jab every time Frampton walked forward and Frampton had little answer for it.

Santa Cruz fought in a very determined and disciplined manner and it seemed pretty apparent Frampton did not prepare to deal with a Santa Cruz who would box from start to finish.

In the post-fight presser Santa Cruz made it clear that he wants to go right after a rubber match with Frampton, offering him a third fight to split the difference. For his part, Frampton admitted that he thought Santa Cruz rightfully won the fight tonight and said he hopes for a third installment. For now Leo Santa Cruz has reclaimed his WBA featherweight world title.
