SINGAPORES ROSLIE CAPTURES WBC ASIA & OPBF FEMALE FEATHERWEIGHT TITLES

SINGAPORE’S pride Nurshahidah Nurshahidah ‘The Sniper’ Roslie’s stopped Thailand’s Siriphon Chanbuala by a knockout in the third round to capture both the vacant WBC Asia and Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Silver Featherweight titles last Sept. 23 at the Le Danz Ballroom in Singapore.
Her victory came after a fierce onslaught in the first two rounds and near total ring control in the third round.
Nurshahidah ended the match convincingly amid cheering spectators as she made quick work of her opponent in an emphatic statement to future opponents that she’s hungry for more.
“I am back in the game and I am extremely happy with today’s fight. My opponent put up a really good fight and her punches were packed with power. However, when I went into the ring, my goal was to walk out with those two belts on my waist and that is what happened,” said Roslie, who is now Singapore’s first female professional boxer and champion.
In the co-main event, Singapore’s Rafi “The Ruffian” Majid and current UBO Super Middleweight champion scored a fourth round knockout against former WBC Asia Silver Middleweight king Maxi Nahak of Indonesia.
As soon as the bout began, Rafi wasted no time, coming out all guns blazing, and although Maxi weathered the storm and even showed signs of making a comeback in the third round, he never quite settled in and, in round 4, finally succumbed to a relentless rain of blows from Rafi as the match ended in KO.
In the undercard, another Singaporean Muhammad Ashiq of Juggernaut Fight Club made a successful pro debut by scoring a third round TKO against Indonesian fighter Ramly Pasaribu in a no holds barred action packed battle.
Pasaribu came out swinging and managed to score a couple of hard hits in the first round, but Ashiq was able to recover and overwhelm his opponent in the second and continued pressing his dominance, cumulating in a TKO in the third round.
Filipino boxer Jun Talape shared the limelight as he continued his come-back winning streak by a unanimous decision over Indonesia’s former lightweight and Welterweight Champion, Rusmin Ke Reha in six rounds.
Home-grown fighter Hamzah Faraouk also made his presence felt by using a solid defense to wear down Jack Langoni Timor of Indonesia in the curtain raiser for his second straight win.
Not only was the line-up for SFC 6 filled with some of the best professional boxing and MMA talent, this installment also featured a number of impressive amateur matches.
The night saw the most number of fights in SFC history – 18 fights in total. With this edition brimming with so much energy and talent from some of the best fighters from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, United States of America and Thailand, SFC is set to continue to promote fight sports across the region and will be bringing more championship belts from other prestigious organizations to Singapore’s shores.
