Felix Verdejo wasn’t spectacular and he had some moments of obvious rust, but the 23-year-old Puerto Rican lightweight prospect returned to action on Friday night in San Juan with a decision win in the main event of UniMás’ Solo Boxeo Tecate.

Verdejo (23-0, 15 KO) defeated Oliver Flores by unanimous decision over 10 rounds, on scores of 96-94, 98-92, and 99-91. Watching on delay, BLH scored the fight 97-93 for Verdejo.

Verdejo hadn’t fought since last June after suffering injuries in a motorcycle accident in 2016. A long layoff had him off his game a bit in the first half of the fight, but once the pace picked up, Flores (27-3-2, 17 KO) was outclassed, and Verdejo was able to distance himself from his opponent down the stretch, looking more comfortable as the fight wore on.

Verdejo is tentatively set to return to the ring on June 10 on HBO, live from The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend in New York. No opponent has been announced.
