Sonnen: Ronda Rousey doesn’t even belong in a sports show, I would’ve kicked her out

While recently trying to promote her WWE match, Ronda Rousey made the wrong kind headlines as she snapped at hosts on two separate ESPN shows. The two occasions stemmed from seemingly simple questions about her losses and her possible retirement in MMA.

Rousey got some flack from fans and media members alike for being hostile on those two interviews, and Chael Sonnen seems to be on the same boat.

“I found it a little bit annoying,” Sonnen explained. “The host is doing you a favor by having you on, considering you’re jumping around a fake ring in Roddy Piper’s clothes. This is a sports show, and you don’t do sports, so maybe give the guy a little bit of slack.

“It’s like ‘hey lady, you’re jumping around in a ring on pay-per-view in a few days. This is a sports show. We’ll extend this to you because you used to do a sport, so let’s help each other out here.’ Then she kinda threw it on his face.”

Sonnen says that while it’s understandable for Rousey to be annoyed at being asked the same question over and over, fielding questions about her retirement is both valid and expected at this point.

“If we had Ronda on this show, that’s what we would have to ask her,” he said. “You can’t talk about the past. First off, that’s not interesting. Second, what are we going to talk about? 1995 or whenever it was when you were skilled at this sport? Am I going to talk about 2001 when you — I can’t remember the year, it’s been a long time. The point is, what are we going to talk about, back when you were the champ, or back when you got your ass kicked and you were not the champ? I have to talk about the future, so the host did the absolute right thing.”

According to the former ESPN analyst in Sonnen though, he would’ve asked a similar question, but if Rousey acted like that on his show, he would’ve handed it differently.

“I will tell you, if I was the host, I would’ve kicked her ass right out of the set,” Sonnen said. “I’m inviting you on a sports show, on ESPN, a place you don’t belong as a pro-wrestler — but we all can scratch each other’s back.

“I’ve got to talk some real sports, because I just have to. I am a sports show, and I am in ESPN, okay? You’re not active, bringing up history is no fun, so I’ve got to think about the future. Fair question by me, but you’re going to try and belittle me for it?

“Let me show you how this goes. Because after I boot your ass and my ratings go up for doing it, tomorrow morning, they’re going to set the same camera back up and I’m still going to be on it, but you aren’t, Ronda. So now we’re going to find out, who got over on who.”
