SANMAN Boxing Stablemates Eden “Sanman” Sonsona and Rimar “Terminator” Metuda are also both seeing action in the “Road to Stardom” boxing card on Sept. 9 in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Sonsona (36W-7L-2D, 13KOs), the current World Boxing Federation (WBF) International super featherweight champion will battle former MinProba featherweight champion Jaime Barcelona (36W-61L-1D, 10KOs) in a rematch scheduled for six rounds.
The 28-year old Sonsona of Gen. Santos City is coming from a 5th round technical knockout loss to WBO Inter-Continenttal super featherweight champion Evgeny Chuprakov last May 5 in DIVS, Ekaterinburg.
Barcelona, 39, bowed in his last fight also to Sonsona in their first encounter last December 4 at the Robinson’’s Mall Gensan but only by a majority decision.
“Muntik nang matalo ni Barcelona si Sonsona sa kanilang unang laban. Kaya dapat lang na may rematch sila,” said Barcelona’s manager Leonil Lazarito of Bukidnon.
Barcelona, who has been preparing long enough for this rematch, last tasted victory against Jason Redondo via a majority decision in their title fight for the vacant MinProba featherweight crown last January 12, 2016 in Cagayan de Oro City.
Metuda (11W-2L-0, 6 KOs), on the other hand, takes on Gabby Simpo (6W-7L-1, 2 KOs).
The 23-year old southpaw won his previous fight by a first round TKO on Jovany Rota last June 10 at the Robinson’s Mall Gensan. Metuda, a former WBF Asia Pacific featherweight title-holder, earlier bowed to Isa Chaniev by a UD in their battle for the vacant IBF Youth super featherweight title last December 15 in Russia.
Simpo last won by a first round TKO on Rey dela Cruz last January 21, 2016 in Lugait. However, Simpo bowed to Metuda’s stablemate Romero Duno by retirement in the second round last December 4 in Gensan.
The boxing card is promoted by the Sanman Promotions and supported by municipal government of Polomolok.
The main event will feature IBF Youth super flyweight champion Jade Bornea (8W-0L) defending his title against Thailand’s Jakkrawut Majoogoen (19W-1L-0D, 11 KOs).
The equally exciting main supporting bout will pit Ben Mananquil (14W-1L-2D, 3KOs) and Rhey Waminal (11W-1L-0D, 6KOS) for the vacant Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Silver bantamweight title.
The card will be streamed live via the Sanman Promotion’s Facebook page SANMAN Live.
