Paddy Pimblett’s recently revealed that he brought a hand injury into his lightweight title showdown with Soren Bak and suggested that had he not been injured, he may have been able to finish a rear-naked choke he established in the first round of their clash in Liverpool, England.
The Liverpudlian was forced from a fight at Cage Warriors 100 due to the same injury and is due to go under the knife next month with the hope of resolving the reoccurring hand issue.
Bak went on to claim the lightweight title via unanimous decision after taking control of the fight from the second round. Although “True Viking” doesn’t think Pimblett is lying about the injury, he thinks it is in poor taste to bring it up after the fact and urged “The Baddy” to have more dignity in defeat.
The Dane also underlined that his ability to remain in the fight despite the choke being established should be credited to his determination rather than Pimblett’s injury.
“It is kind of frustrating to see, but mostly because, the way I see it, he’s only hurting his own image being the guy that always has pretty bad excuses when he lose, and [my victory] was undeniable. The only thing you can do with dignity is stand up and take it like a man, not make excuses like a little boy,” Bak told Eurobash.
“It might have been true, but I think, even with a broken arm I could’ve finished most guys with a full rear-naked choke with a full body triangle. For me, [the win] speaks more for my determination that his injury.”
Bak has vacated the 155-pound title to move down and challenge for Dean Trueman’s featherweight title. Should he secure the title, he would become the first person in promotional history since Conor McGregor to claim two belts in two different divisions.
With the title now up for grabs, Bak expects Jack Grant to he given a title shot that he thinks Cage Warriors have been setting him up for.
“[Jack Grant] probably will [fight for the title]. I haven’t heard anything about it, but the way Cage Warriors were giving fights to Jack, not really testing him until the last two fights, they were trying to set him up for the title,” he said.
Bak has no idea who the English prospect would take on to decide the title
“That’s a good question. He’s fighting in Liverpool, right? I haven’t really got a name in mind, so probably a local boy. If Paddy is not ready I’m sure he has some friends who are ready to step up and sell some tickets.”
