An historic and pioneering success for the World Boxing Council,  with the WBC Silver welterweight championship showcasing Singapore,  in which Uzbekistan sensation Qudratillo Abduqaxorov won the famous green and gold belt with a spectacular first round TKO of Charles Manyuchi from Zimbabwe at the OCBC Arena.

A brief bout full of powerful, pungent fireworks, during which the new 24 year old sensation from the East,  had to weather a whirlwind of rocketing heavy blows, before he could ignite and deliver his own to win with just four seconds left on the clock in the first.

Abduqaxorov who now lives in Singapore is already a firm favourite and he was determined NOT to disappoint in front of his many fans, at this ground breaking, seismic spectacular. The champion, determined to instantly impose his will and make it a short punctuated night,  immediatly attacked with some wild hooks in an unorthadox throw everything including the kitchen sink style.  He missed with some, but landed effectively with others.  Abduqaxorov showed patience, reasonable defence and guile to bide his time, and produce a full stop with an exclamation mark!

Manyuchi who was ultra confident, was dropping his hands and this proved a very costly strategic mistake.  He walked into a terrific left hook which dropped him to the canvass like a rock rippling a lake.  Although he fell back as he tried to get up, he was bravely able to stand, before Refereee Raymond Chang from Hong Kong completed the count.  However,  Abduqaxorov  in full flow put him back from whence he came and the Referee immediatly and wisely stopped the bout.

A short duration, but terrific fight to start what Bogart once suggested is: “The start of a beautiful relationship,” between the World Boxing Council and ornate Singapore.

Special thanks to WBC Supervisor Tsuyoshi Yasukochi of the JBC for a job well done!
