Spring Vs Fall could mean a hard landing in Nairobi

Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado who`s travelled all the way  from Mexico to  Nairobi, Kenya to this Saturday challenge for the WBC female Super Bantamweight crown is counting on the bloom of youth to win garlands.

A fresh 20 year old, Mercado (12-1-0, 4 KOs)  faces the champion, Kenyan Fatuma Zarika (30-12-2, 17 ko’s), who`s aiming to defend her belt for the second time. Yeimi said:
“We have done a great preparation and now a long trip to take that title back to Mexico. We will show that I`m the best in the world. We had  a great welcome from the promoters and sports authorities of Nairobi.”

The Champion Fatuma…a 33-year-old veteran fighter with 44 fights,  she has fought Ina Menzer, Galina Koleva Ivanova, Belinda Laracuente, Diana Prazak, Delfine Persoon, Cindy Serrano, Jennifer Han, Amanda Serrano, Alicia Ashley and Catherine Pirri.

Undaunted young Yeimi explained:  “We have advanced a lot in technique, thanks to the teachings in the two months of concentration with  coach Alfredo Caballero and his team.  I debuted five years ago and this opportunity came to me at a great moment.”

Zarika has accumulated 17 knockouts in her 30 victories, and of her 12 defeats, none has been via stoppage.

The 13 fights of Yamileth have been in Mexican territory, while Fatuma has fought, in  Denmark, Hungary, Germany, Czech Republic, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Finland, Dominican Republic and the United States.
