World Boxing Council super flyweight  champion, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, born in 1986, has spent his entire life surrounded by a sporting atmosphere, as his family has mostly been dedicated to Muay Thai, the national symbol sport of Thailand.

Growing up in a humble environment, Srisaket worked from an early age and in his spare time trained Muay Thai to fight at events and thus earn some coins to support his family.

Determined to get ahead, at age 13 he moved to Bangkok, where he suffered many shortcomings as well as setbacks and where had to work long hours in order to survive.

One day his life took a different course, he met with a boxing trainer in a small gym, where he began training, in order to make his professional debut.  His first fights were  in Japan, and although he lost he did not give up.

Then, he asked  Thainchai Pisitwuttinan, promoter of the company Nakornloung, for the opportunity to train in his gym and  prove he has what it takes.

On May 3, 2013, he knocked out Japan’s Yota Sato in the eighth round to win the World Boxing Council super flyweight title  in what was one of the finest fights of the year.

On May 31, the Mexican Carlos Cuadras dethroned the Thai Sor Rungvisai by technical decision in the eighth round. In spite of his defeat, Srisaket did not give up and began the long, gruelling and exacting route to the recover the title.

The great opportunity came last March.  Sor Rungvisai defeated by majority decision to Roman “Chocolatito” González, to dethrone him and to recover the WBC belt at the Madison Square Garden of New York.

After 12 intense rounds of intense and thrilling action, which included a surprise knock down of “Chocolatito” from a rib bending body blow in the first round, Judges decided victory for Sor Rungvisai on two cards 114-112 and 114-112, while the other one was a draw 113- 113.

Ser Rungvisai has often declared his pride to be WBC champion, in addition to the great responsibility he has as an example of thousands of young people in his own country.

On September 9, Srisaket will grant a much anticipated  rematch to “Chocolatito.”  What a contest it`s going to be!
