After an injury that scratched their November fight at UFC Fight Night 102, bantamweight contenders Aljamain Sterling and Raphael Assuncao are now slated to fight in January, as MMA Fighting reported.
Coming off of his first professional loss, a split decision to Bryan Caraway in May, Sterling (12-1) had been on a four-fight winning streak before that. Three of those were stoppages, over the likes of Hugo Viana, Takeya Mizugaki and Johnny Eduardo. Sterling’s last win dates back to December 2015.
Assuncao (23-5) was undefeated in the bantamweight division and on a seven-fight win streak with wins over notable names such as former champion, T.J. Dillashaw and Bryan Caraway, until he dropped an unanimous decision in his rematch against Dillashaw, at UFC 200.
Aljamain Sterling will now meet Raphael Assuncao at UFC on FOX 23, in Denver, Colorado, on January 28. The card will be headlined by female bantamweight contenders, Valetina Shevchenko and Julianna Pena.
