Last weekend’s light heavyweight title fight between Adonis Stevenson and Badou Jack was a good one, but it didn’t exactly light up the airways. According to Nielsen Media Research, via ESPN, the main event broadcast between Stevenson and Jack, which aired on Showtime, averaged 535,000 viewers, peaking at 611,000.
Stevenson and Jack would wind up fighting to a majority draw which had Stevenson taking an early lead on the scorecards and Jack coming on in the second half. All in all, the decision appeared to be a fair one. And with the draw Stevenson retained his WBC title.
The chief support for this doubleheader was a featherweight title defense between Gary Russell Jr. and Joseph Diaz Jr. This was another well fought battled where Russell just showed his class and experience advantage over Diaz. That fight averaged 487,000 viewers and peaked at 567,000.
Both titleholders in these bouts, Stevenson and Russell Jr., were coming off about one year layoffs.
