WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (28-1, 23 KOs) scored a sensational fourth round KO over WBC #8 rated challenger Thomas “Top Dog” Williams Jr (20-2, 14 KOs) on Friday night at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada. Stevenson dropped Williams late in round one with a straight left hand. Good action in round two with both fighters landing big shots. More big shots by both in round three. Williams was momentarily rocked, but then came back strong. Furious toe-to-toe action in round four before Stevenson laid out Williams to win by explosive fourth round KO. A short left hand ended it. Time was 2:54. It was the seventh successful defense for Stevenson.
Unbeaten WBC #1 contender Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (20-0, 10 KOs) scored a workmanlike ten round unanimous decision over late sub Robert “The Butcher” Berridge (27-5-1, 21 KOs). Alvarez outclassed the rugged Berridge, whose right was busted up at the end, in a forgettable fight. Scores were 99-90, 98-92, 98-92. Berridge replaced former world champion Chad Dawson, who was forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury. Next up for Alvarez could be a world title tilt for Alvarez against stablemate Adonis Stevenson.
Undefeated middleweight Immanuwel Aleem (16-0-1, 9 KOs) and Demond Nicholson (17-1-1, 16 KOs) battled to an eight round majority draw. Aleem banked the early rounds. Nicholson came on midway, and the last four rounds had good two-way action. Aleem seemingly scored a knockdown in round seven, but it was ruled a slip. Scores were 77-75, 76-76 and 76-76.
