The light heavyweight clash between former title challenger Sullivan Barrera and New York favorite Sean Monaghan, originally set for August 18th before the former withdrew due to an eye injury, is back on for November 3rd in Brooklyn, free to watch on Facebook.

Barrera (21-2, 14 KO) will be looking to rebound from a wipeout loss to Dmitry Bivol in March, with saw the oft-dropped but never-before-stopped Cuban finished in the final round. Monaghan (29-1, 17 KO) has some redemption of his own in mind, having fallen to Marcus Browne in two rounds last year.

Monaghan, despite no wins of note, is still ranked above Barrera in three sanctioning bodies. The WBO inexplicably has him #4, ranked above Badou Jack, Joe Smith Jr., and recently dethroned champion Sergey Kovalev. The IBF has him one spot ahead of Browne despite the latter’s one-sided victory.

This is all remarkably stupid. If Monaghan wins, there is a very real chance of him fighting the winner of Eleider Alvarez-Sergey Kovalev 2; the only people above him are Browne (who was passed over for domestic violence), Anthony Yarde, and Mike Lee. I would genuinely love to hear the rationale here.
