SUMMER NOT SPRING FOR GARCIA VS LINARES

By WBCboxing.com

WBC Lightweight champion Mikey Garcia and promoters Golden Boy Promotions have decided to delay the fight against Venezuelan Jorge Linares, for several months.

The undefeated American and Linares (43-3-KO27) have different upcoming projects in the coming weeks, so Mikey  hopes that he will face Linares a little later this year.

“I had a chat with Golden Boy and Eric Gomez. We discussed the possibility of fighting in January 20 or 27, but Eric also suggested that it should be on a different date,” he told Sky Sports exclusively.

“Linares and I really want to get into the ring this summer. January is not the right month and that is why we both decided to take a middle fight. We both want this fight, we both want to fight, but  why not wait a few months and generate more interest than we would have in January?”

“That’s why we both decided to take a fight before. Jorge will face (Mercito) Gesta on January 27, I’m going to face (Sergey) Lipinets on February 10. When we complete those commitments we’ll sit down again.  We hope that everything goes well and that there are no more interruptions to make the fight that the fans really want to see.”
