Supreme “Chocolate Box”

By WBCboxing.com

Former Nicaraguan world champion, Román “Chocolatito” González, is a five dimensional boxing superstar.

Born in Managua on June 17, 1987, Roman grew up in a humble home along with his parents and siblings, where the economic situation sometimes became complicated. He was nicknamed “Chocolatito”, since his Father, who was a merchant, was known as “Chocolate”.

Roman’s love  for boxing is rooted  deep,  as he comes from a family of boxers. He grew up watching the Sport and training with his Uncle and his Father, so he decided to dedicate himself to The Noble Art.

From a very young age Roman showed exceptional natural talent, coupled with great discipline in training. A fact that led him to meet the Nicaraguan legend, Alexis Arguello. Román began training with a group of young people under the command of the Great former Champion, which forged his character and refined technique, leading him to be crowned as world champion.

In 2008 he won his first world crown, initiating a path of success that led him to be champion in 4 different divisions. He defeated quality rivals such as Francisco “Chihuas” Rodriguez, Ronald Barrera, Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada, Ramon Garcia Hirales, Edgar Sosa, among others.

One of the moments that highlighted and showcased his career was when he won the flyweight title of the World Boxing Council, knocking out Japan`s Akira Yaegashi. After making 4 successful defenses, Roman climbed to the super flyweight division to defeat Mexican champion Carlos Cuadras, in one of the best fights of 2016.

“Chocolatito” is recognized for being a brave fighter who faces the best of each division in which he has been champion, and in 2017 was no exception. He faced the dangerous Thai and current WBC super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, and was defeated twice. And although the defeats are usually painful, Roman is prepared to return to the ring and show that he knows how to rise from a fall.

Roman has achieved so much in Boxing. Yet he is known as a person of kindness, humility  and simplicity, whose greatest inspirations are his Family, God and his country.

In the World Boxing Council we are so very proud of “Chocolatito”, because he`s a giant  example of perseverance and sheer courage.
