Hall of Fame Coach Nacho Beristaín insists that Rey Vargas has everything he needs to become world champion on February 25 when he contests the vacant WBC super bantamweight title in Hull, Yorkshire, England, facing local lad Gavin McDonell.
The historic trainer who has forged and tempered more than 25 world champions, who`ve gone on the hammer, in their own right says: “This fight comes at just the right time. Rey is a mature fighter and he has a lot of discipline. Rey continues learning every day and I’m sure he will not miss this opportunity because he`s yearned and he`s dreamed of being a champion for many years.
“Rey is an excellent fighter, helped by his Father and with whom we have done a great job. His time to be world champion is February 25. He`s waited, worked and learned a lot to get here. And we will return to Mexico as champions.
“The rival is a fighter with punch, who moves well in the ring and who will have certain advantage on his side. But Rey is ready for that and more. We will deliver a smart fight, never giving up the initiative and with good boxing we’re going to come back with the belt!”
